In his New Year’s address Namibian President Hage Geingob made clear that 2018 is a year for his government to take center stage in fulfilling the promises it made to the people of Namibia; He lamented the reports of laxity, mismanagement and internal wrangles that have come from various government wings. He implored government officials to stand faithful in their calling to serve the public.
Key areas of development President Geingob endeavors to see accomplished this year include; increasing access by citizens to basic needs such as clean water, sanitation and electricity. Furthermore the government promises to invest in infrastructure development/rehabilitation projects such as those improving rail systems, airports and ports in general. He further highlighted the adoption of necessary and strategic fiscal adjustments by the government which will in the long run prove most beneficial to the country, these entail budget cuts that will attract short term inconvenience but will eventually pay off.
President Geingob encouraged the public to take interest in doing what it can in alleviating poverty and keeping the environment clean. 2018 according to the President is a year of hope if everyone plays their part in contributing to national development. Opposition leader McHenry Venaani advised the government to ensure a balanced distribution of national resources in which all Namibians prosper in one way or another. To help reduce poverty he encouraged government to do its part in creating a favorable economic atmosphere and promoting job creation.
